The Kiwanis Club of Douglas, as part of its service to the community, presented nine child car seats to the Coffee County Department of Health on Monday, August 28. The seats will be used by them in their child safety program. Wes Abler and Duane Carr, representing the club, presented the seats to Kathy O’Neal and Judy Taylor of the Coffee County Department of Health.
The Coffee County School System will be conducting a Substitute Teacher Workshop on Wednesday, September 13th, 2017, 8 a.m – Noon at the Board of Education office, 1311 South Peterson Avenue. If you are interested in working as a substitute teacher, stop by the Board of Education office, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and pick up an application packet. Mr. Dobson “Dobbie” Bennett, age 83, of Douglas passed away Tuesday morning, August 29, 2017, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Bennett was born August 30, 1933 to the late Wilson Conner Bennett and the late Effie Mae Herrin Bennett. Monday morning, August 28, the Alma Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding through a school zone at twice the posted speed limit on GA HWY 32 E in front of the Bacon County Elementary School. The driver of the vehicle later identified as Hunter Taylor, 20 of Alma, led officers on a high-speed chase onto Bennett Still Hwy. Officers were able to bring the vehicle to a stop near Big Creek Church Rd, but Hunter fled into a wooded area.
