Mr. Jerry “Pool” Powell, age 68, of Ambrose, GA passed away Sunday morning, August 13, 2017, at his residence following a short illness. Mr. Powell was born January 3, 1949 to the late Comer W. Powell and the late Beulah Wooten Powell. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 Brothers; Jerome Powell and Royce Powell. Mr. Powell was a native of Jeff Davis County, GA. Two men were jailed last week on methamphetamine and other drug-related charges following separate investigations by the Douglas – Coffee Drug Unit. Around 6 p.m., August 10, detectives attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on a white Chevrolet pickup on Burton Rd. for traffic violations. As the pickup came to a slow roll, the passenger, later identified as Ryon Graham Bland, exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby field. Detectives gave chase, and, several minutes later, Bland was found in a wooded area near Elzie Anderson Rd. A subsequent search of the passenger area of the vehicle…

A ribbon cutting to celebrate the renovation of Davis Hall on the Douglas Campus of South Georgia State College will be held on Friday, August 25, at 9:30 a.m. Davis Hall, built in 1906, was one of the original three buildings of what was then an A&M school. Originally, Davis Hall served as a dormitory to students, with its primary purpose now as classroom space. The renovation brings a variety of technology and layout changes to the space to enhance the teaching and learning experiences for SGSC students as well as increased utility efficiencies for the institution. By: Kevin Tatum Evie Woodward has the distinct honor of being elected by her peers to the role of State Representative on the Georgia 4-H Board of Directors. Evie campaigned at the Georgia 4-H State Council meeting at Rock Eagle 4-H Center on June 23-25. Five candidates are elected, one as president, one as vice-president, and three as state representatives. At the time of announcement, they do not know which office they hold.
