The City of Douglas has had a curfew ordinance in effect for many years but many young people and their parents/guardians are not familiar with these laws. “It is the desire of the City of Douglas to remind some, while educating others, the hours that young people, under the age of 18 can legally be in a public place without being under the supervision of a parent or guardian”, says City Manager, Terrell Jacobs. A portion of South Gaskin Avenue is scheduled to close to through traffic June 12 for construction of a culvert, which is necessary due to the widening of the perimeter road (U.S. 221/SR 135). Drivers will not be able to access Gaskin Avenue from the perimeter road/Bowens Mill Road. Traffic will detour to Old Axson Road and then to Pine Street. Earlier Tuesday, a pair of inmates shot and killed two prison guards during transport and escaped. The incident happened in Putnam County — the county in which 4-H’s Camp Rock Eagle is located. Currently, a number of Coffee County students are at Rock Eagle enjoying a week of camp. Douglas was once again named as one of the top micropolitan cities in the U.S. for new and expanding industrial facilities for by Site Selection magazine, the official publication of the Global FDI Association and the Industrial Asset Management Council.
