Back in January, Coffee County Junior and Senior 4-H members participated in the District Project Achievement at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center. During the weekend, Southeast District Junior and Senior 4-H members voted and elected their 2017-2018 Southeast District Junior and Senior 4-H Board of Directors. Coffee County had five young men and ladies elected to these two boards. Bethany Lambert of Charlton County was recently recognized as South Georgia State College’s (SGSC) 2016-2017 recipient of the Harry Dixon Scholarship by the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of Georgia Foundation. Lambert is a 2014 graduate of Charlton Christian Academy in Folkston, Ga. After SGSC, Lambert plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education and hopes to be a health teacher in a local school system. The Harry Dixon Scholarship was established in 2000 by the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of Georgia Foundation. A total of 738 South Georgia State College students have earned a spot on the 2017 spring Academic Honors List, according to an announcement by Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Robert Page; 204 students earned a spot on the President’s List, 216 on the Dean’s List, and 318 on the Academic Honors List. The Alma Police Department is currently seeking a couple, a white male and white female, driving a small, possibly compact-style red with chrome car with Florida license plates. The female in the attached photo passed a counterfeit $20 bill at Jay’s IGA in Alma. The female also passed a counterfeit $20 bill to an outdoor vendor at Jay’s IGA. An Alma man has been arrested on pornography and child exploitation charges. The Alma Police Department reports that on Thursday evening, May 26, the Criminal Investigative Division and Crime Suppression Unit arrested Franklin David McCrea, 49 of Alma, for computer pornography and child exploitation. On Monday, May 22, APD and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant on the law office of McCrea. Officers seized several computers for forensic evaluation. Due to Unison Behavioral Health discontinuing to provide the service of cardboard pick up and baling, the City of Douglas will immediately be collecting the wire baskets from those participating businesses throughout town. Family members of former jail officer Sgt. Eric Dewayne Smith joined Sheriff Doyle Wooten and the staff of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office Friday morning in remembrance of Smith’s contributions to the local community. Sgt. Smith lost his life in an automobile accident on May 2, 2007, while assisting Coffee County deputies. On Friday, CCSO staff hung Smith’s portrait in the lobby of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office alongside those of other Coffee County fallen officers, Deputy Herman Edward Smith (Sept. 6, 1963) and Staff Sergeant Clyde Almond “Tub” Merritt (Jan. 3, 2000).

JoAnne Manning, Juice Plus, spoke at the Douglas Kiwanis Club meeting of Tuesday the 23rd of May at the Flyin’ Cowboy restaurant. She gave a presentation on the Juice Plus products which emphasized the importance of fruits and vegetables in our diets and showed how the products are processed into a food product and not into a vitamins product.
