Wiregrass Georgia Technical College announces operational hours for summer semester 2017. Beginning May 22 until July 28, all Wiregrass campuses will be open on Monday through Thursday and closed on Friday. Most Wiregrass offices will operate on a Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. schedule with the campuses open until evening classes completed. The City of Douglas and Transwaste are offering a second residential Junk Drop-Off Days date in April. The upcoming date will be Saturday, April 29 at the City Pole Yard located at Pearl Avenue from 8 am-noon. There will be no junk drop off date offered in May. Remaining drop-off dates for 2017 are as follows: June 3, July 1, August 5, September 2, October 7, November 4, and December 2, 2017. The Coffee Middle School family offers its congratulations to these three students on making the Region Honor Band hosted at Valdosta State University. These students went through two audition processes and were selected as the top musicians on their instruments in all of South Georgia: Joseph Deloach on tenor saxophone, Cailey Martinez on clarinet, and Gracee Myers on oboe. Joseph and Gracee are eighth grade students at Coffee Middle School and Cailey is a seventh grade student at CMS.
Throughout Georgia, many people have been affected by homicide and often these homicides are unsolved. In Douglas-Coffee County, there are several unsolved homicide cases. As part of “City in the Mix Day,” a special prayer vigil will be held for victims of solved and unsolved homicide cases in Douglas and Coffee County. A man wanted by Coffee County and City of Douglas law enforcement was arrested over the weekend following a brief foot chase that ended when the offender found himself in a precarious position. Around 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, Coffee County deputies spotted a vehicle occupied by 25-year-old Kadeem Demond Lewis in the area of Highway 32 West. Lewis was known by deputies to have active arrest warrants through the sheriff’s office, along with pending charges through the Douglas Police Department. Commencement for Coffee High School and Wiregrass Regional College and Career Academy is Saturday May 20, at 9 a.m. at Dan A. Jardine Stadium. Tickets are not required for stadium entrance. However, graduates will be given five special rain day tickets for gym entrance in case of inclement weather. Seating for invited guests is on both the home side and visitor sides of the stadium.
