Commencement for Coffee High School and Wiregrass Regional College and Career Academy is Saturday May 20, at 9 a.m. at Dan A. Jardine Stadium. Tickets are not required for stadium entrance. However, graduates will be given five special rain day tickets for gym entrance in case of inclement weather. Seating for invited guests is on both the home side and visitor sides of the stadium. Thursday morning, April 20th, the Alma Police Department received a report of a stolen vehicle. After an investigation, the vehicle was recovered and Tiffany McCloud, 34 of Alma, was arrested for motor vehicle theft. Friday afternoon, April 21st, APD’s Crime Suppression Unit arrested three following a traffic stop on S. Pierce St. for a seatbelt and lane violation. Benjamin King, 36 of Mershon, was arrested for DUI. Jana Burke, 28 of Nicholls, was arrested for possession of a schedule II controlled substance. Chasity Carter, 27 of Alma, was arrested on an outstanding probation violation warrant.

A Douglas man faces domestic violence charges after Coffee County deputies responded to a fight in a roadway Thursday afternoon. Deputies were dispatched around 4:30 p.m. to Aubrey Road in reference to a domestic dispute and observed the female victim and the offender, 28-year-old Cortney J. Young, engaged in a verbal altercation. Deputies separated the two parties, and Young denied that any physical contact had occurred. The victim stated Young had struck her on the face with an open hand, pulled her hair, and ripped her shirt. As a part of the “Shame on You” Anti-Litter and Beautification Program, offenders who are caught in the act of littering, illegally dumping, vandalizing property, or dumpster diving could have their names/photos posted on the City’s social media platforms, Channel 13, and could face a fine of up to $1,000.
