Students in Mrs. Lefan’s Second Grade homeroom are working hard to become good readers! These students met their reading goal for February. Mrs. Morgan says, “Readers are leaders.” We are so proud of you! Way to go!

Carnival games, math, pizza, and lots of happy faces was the scene at Indian Creek last Thursday, March 9. Students learned that math can be fun and purposeful when applied to real life situations. Parents of ESOL students also received important information from Mrs. Trish Watson and Mrs. Rhonda Johnson. Many thanks to everyone who helped make this evening a success!

A man who led Coffee County deputies on a high speed chase exceeding speeds of 100 mph on Saturday is in the Coffee County Jail facing multiple charges. Deputies initiated a traffic stop on Mora Road near its intersection with Highway 135 following a complaint that the occupants had exposed themselves publicly on the side of the roadway several minutes earlier. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 22-year-old Marcus Tyler Kirby of Adel, fled the scene while deputies were attempting to verify his identity. Coffee County sheriff’s investigators have a charged a 35-year-old Douglas man after determining he forcibly raped a 19-year-old victim at her home. Deputies responded to a residence in the area of Green Oak Street shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday, March 11, in reference to a possible rape. A complainant at the home told authorities her niece had been raped by an unknown male. The victim further stated the man had entered the home, which was unlocked at the time, and forced himself on her. She added she did not know the man’s name, but had seen him earlier with one…

John D. Waters, age 70, of West Green, GA passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Bacon County Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Waters was born on August 8, 1946, in Chattanooga, TN to the late Dan Cecil Waters and Addie Mae Cates Waters. Helen Jane Boatright, age 81, of Long Beach, MS passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at residence following an extended illness. First Academy will offer a Preview Day for Pre-K to 7th Grade on Tuesday, March 14 at 5:30 p.m. Current and prospective families will be able to meet their child’s teacher for the 2017-18 school year.
