Ron Morris, a local cyclist, competed in four different events in the Senior Games (formerly Senior Olympics) in Birmingham, Ala., earlier this month. Morris, who began racing only three years ago, was the qualifier in Georgia for the 10k time trial, the 5k time trials, the 20k road race and the 40k road race. Over 4,000 volunteers helped put on the Games in Birmingham. Seniors from throughout the United States and several other countries competed in such sports as volleyball, softball, basketball, speed walking, triathlon and several others. A registered sex offender residing in Coffee County was jailed by sheriff’s investigators Tuesday after failing to comply with the requirements of his sex offender status. 50-year-old Randy Flanagan was convicted of sexual exploitation of a child in Turner County, Ga. following a 2006 incident. He was subsequently released from incarceration in 2011, but served another sentence for failing to register as a sex offender between 2013 and 2016. Flanagan had registered his most recent address at a residence on Madison Ave. in Douglas, but Coffee County detectives learned he had moved from that address nearly a month ago without…

Mr. Daniel Seaborn Sellers, 82 of Douglas, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 18, 2017, at Coffee Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness. He was born March 26, 1935 to the late Joseph Lewis Sellers, Sr. and the late Nora Lydia Salter Sellers. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Ethelene Walker, Novella Spivey and Nettie Ponder and brother Ernest Sellers. Coffee Drug Agents arrested a 19-year-old Douglas woman on marijuana distribution charges following an incident on June 19. Douglas police met with Dacia Desiree Diaz on June 19 initially in reference to a domestic issue. Officers detected the smell of marijuana while speaking with Diaz and discovered she was in possession of a small amount of the drug. A subsequent investigation by the Douglas – Coffee Drug Unit led to the discovery over three ounces.
