On Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, Pattie Merritt, Main Street Coordinator, represented Douglas as the American Camellia Society and Georgia Tourism announced the Georgia Camellia Trail at Massee Lane Gardens in Ft. Valley. The Camellia Trail features 30 stops throughout Georgia that are considered visitor friendly. Ronnie McClelland, age 80, of Broxton, GA passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. McClelland was born on April 06, 1936 in Douglas, GA to the late Warren Preston McClelland and Eula Lee Strickland McClelland. Mr. McClelland worked for the Postal Service for 40 plus years. Mrs. Lounez McNeal Gwinn, age 101 of Douglas, passed away Thursday evening, February 9, 2017, at Shady Acres Health and Rehabilitation following an extended illness. Mrs. Gwinn was born July 26, 1915 to the late John R. McNeal and the late Corinne King McNeal. She was a native of Cecil, GA. CLOVERLEAF 4-H DANCE We have scheduled the next Cloverleaf 4-H Dance for 5th and 6th grade 4-H members on Thursday, Feb. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Indian Creek Elementary School. Admission for the dance is $10 plus 4-H members must have a 4-H wristband to be admitted. You must pay the admission fee at the door. It has been a week of travel for South Georgia State College. With road games to Florida and South Carolina, the Hawks came away with three wins out of the four games. The first double-header of the week was at Florida State College of Jacksonville. A late score by FSCJ costs the Hawks to lose their lead.
