A domestic violence suspect faces aggravated assault and other charges after leading Coffee County deputies on a vehicle and foot pursuit Thursday night. Deputies responded to a report of an aggravated assault in progress at a residence off Miller Road just prior to 9 p.m. The female victim stated the offender, 33-year-old Robert John Martin, had punched her in the head several times and choked her. A Coffee County woman has been charged with drug trafficking following a multi-agency investigation that led to the discovery of approximately four pounds of methamphetamine. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (HSI) informed the Douglas Coffee Drug Unit (DCDU), along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Southeast Regional Drug Enforcement Office (SRDEO), last week that they had intercepted information and evidence indicating several pounds of methamphetamine were being shipped to Coffee County from the West Coast. Coffee County sheriff’s authorities have arrested a 38-year-old Douglas man believed to be responsible for burglarizing a residence earlier this week in the Green Acres community. Deputies responded to a home on Greenfield Circle Monday, March 13, in reference to a burglary. The victim stated she had returned home that evening and discovered several televisions and other items with an estimated total value of over $1,000 were missing. Father John Commins, St. Andrews Anglican Church, was the speaker at the Douglas Kiwanis Club meeting of Tuesday the 14th of March at the Flyin’ Cowboy restaurant. He spoke about his early career in radio then his career change to become an Anglican priest and ended with his return to radio part time. He produces and hosts a Christian music show Wednesdays 8-10 PM and Sundays 1-3 PM on WDMG (97.9 FM). The Kiwanis club members enjoyed and appreciated his presentation.
