Wiregrass Georgia Technical College will be accepting new student applications for Summer Semester on Free Application Day, March 23. Any new student who applies in person on this day will have the application fee waived. Free Application Day will be held on the Ben Hill-Irwin Campus, Coffee Campus, Cook County WDC Campus, Moody AFB Extended Campus, and the Valdosta Campus from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Students now have two choices for earning summer college credits at Wiregrass. The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) released its week seven Division I rankings and SGSC had earned a spot in the polls as number twenty in the nation. The fourth-seed South Georgia State College Hawks took advantage of a scoring run early in the second half Tuesday night to defeat the fifth-seed Chattahoochee Tech Golden Eagles 98-86 and advance to the semifinals of the GCAA Conference Tournament. Leading 48-37 at halftime, the Hawks (22-9) opened the second half with a 13-4 scoring run in the first three minutes to break the game open and lead 61-41. The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office has a charged a 16-year-old male with one count of terroristic threats in regards to a social media post threatening an act of violence against Coffee County Schools. Sheriff’s officials were notified just prior to midnight, March 8, 2017, that the juvenile had posted an update to his personal Facebook page stating, “I’m shooting the whole Coffee County School system up tomorrow.” Officers were able to locate the 16-year-old at an apartment complex in Douglas, where he was taken into custody shortly after 1 a.m. The suspect admitted to officers he had published the post…

Carol Morgan was the speaker at the Douglas Kiwanis Club meeting of Tuesday the 7th of March at the Flyin’ Cowboy restaurant. She spoke about the Coffee County Memory Project covering the years 1969 thru 1972. Using donated equipment and a grant they have made good progress and hope to eventually produce a book.
