At Westside Elementary, perfect attendance is highly celebrated! Not only do we reward students with monthly perfect attendance, but we also reward two lucky students who have had perfect attendance each nine weeks. During our Nine Week’s Celebration Assemblies, a name of a student who has had perfect attendance for the nine weeks is drawn in grades K-2 and in 3-5 for a special prize. Mrs. Margaret Rowell Carver, age 89, of Douglas passed away Tuesday evening, October 25, 2016, at Twin Oaks Facility in Alma, following an extended illness. She was born June 14, 1927 to the late William H. Rowell and the late Mary Frances Fussell Rowell. Mrs. Elaine Bailey Papadam passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016, in Athens, Greece, where she had lived for the last approximate 47 years. She lost her battle with cancer, which she had suffered for 2 years. Elaine Papadam was born January 14, 1944, in Douglas, GA, to the late W. H. (Bill) Bailey, Jr. and Bobbie Blocker Bailey. South Georgia State College’s men’s basketball team will play its season opener against the Martinique National Team Wednesday, Nov. 2 in the gymnasium on SGSC’s Douglas Campus. The gymnasium is located inside the Douglas Campus Wellness Center. Tip for the game is set for 7 p.m. The Hawks begin the new season ranked second in the GCAA preseason coaches poll. Kids & Pros co-founder and former Atlanta Falcons player Buddy Curry visited West Green Elementary School on October 24 as part of Red Ribbon Week.
