Sam Patterson was the speaker at the Douglas Kiwanis Club meeting Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Flyin’ Cowboy restaurant. Mr. Patterson gave a presentation on the restoration of a wood and canvas canoe that was made in 1945. After the meeting, he showed everyone the completed canoe. Pre-K students in Mrs. Milhollin’s, Mrs. Stella’s, and Mrs. Shook’s class at Indian Creek Elementary have been learning about families. Grandparent’s Day was celebrated on Monday, Sept. 12, and the class enjoyed breakfast with their grandparents. On Friday, Sept. 16, Scott Smith and his father, Mr. Adam Smith, played the guitar and the banjo, entertaining the class while everyone sang the ABC song. On Tuesday, Sept. 20, Maddie Rae thrilled the class when her nana, Mrs. Jackie, brought her new puppy, Duke, a miniature schnauzer, to share with the class. At the regularly scheduled Douglas City Commission meeting on Monday, September 26, Mayor Tony Paulk, Commissioner Cindy McNeill, along with the South Georgia BBQ & Outdoor Festival (SGBOF) Motorcycle Committee, presented the Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County with a donation of $701.00. The Douglas Fire Department will be at the Community Health and Wellness Day on October 1, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Central Square Complex. Indian Creek Cardinals showed their love and support for children who battle childhood cancer on Friday, September 23, by having some very special visitors! The City of Douglas, Douglas Coffee County Chamber of Commerce, and the Coffee County Commission are proud to announce the Marshals for the 53rd Annual Festival of Lights Christmas Parade. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and Coffee Middle School has participated in a number of activities. Many of our faculty and students recently dressed in their favorite superhero shirts and accessories on Super Hero Day.
