Father John Commins was the speaker at the Douglas Kiwanis Club meeting Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the Flyin’ Cowboy restaurant. Father Commins spoke about how the teachings of Jesus and the lessons of the Bible can help bring peace and unity to our country after the recent contentious elections. Coffee Middle School’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is taking donations to build a mission home in Haiti. Each grade level has a “house” in the commons area. FCA students are taking donations of $1 per brick to help fund the Baptist Mission home in Haiti. We would like to give a special thanks to Mr. Jimmy Ricketson for building our houses! Five South Georgia State College players are preparing for the next steps in their college baseball careers by signing letters of intent last week. The players will be dominant forces on the SGSC Hawks team this spring and then part ways to continue playing at the next level. Bradly Cammack, a right handed pitcher from Treutlen County, Ga., has committed to Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. A late second half run, and strong shooting from the three-point line, helped the South Georgia State College Hawks extend their winning streak to four games Saturday afternoon, defeating TAAG Academy 94-77. The game was back-and-forth in the first half, which included 12 ties and 10 lead changes. The Hawks (4-0) led 42-41 at halftime, and the game remained close until the 7:45 mark in the second half. Pearlie Privett, age 73, of Douglas, Ga. passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. following an extended illness. Mrs. Privett was born on November 5, 1943, in Willacoochee, Ga. to the late George Washington Richardson and Effie Kay Davis Richardson. Survivors include: her husband, Irvin C.
