The City of Douglas has been selected as a PlanFirst Community by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. The PlanFirst designation recognizes communities for successful comprehensive plan implementation efforts over many years. The prestigious designation enables the City of Douglas to take advantage of various incentives offered through the program which will be in effect for a three-year period. Benefits of a city becoming a PlanFirst designation are the incentives available to designees from DCA and GEFA during the designation period. The City of Douglas will be doing its part to make the holiday season special for residents of Georgia’s hospitals serving persons with developmental disabilities and behavioral health needs. For 57 years, cities across Georgia have brought the joy of the holiday season to patients at Georgia’s regional behavioral health hospitals through the Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade. “This is a great program to help patients at local and regional mental health facilities,” says Mayor Tony Paulk. “I encourage everyone to donate so we can ensure these patients receive some joy at Christmas.” The program, begun by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) …

The Pearson Public Library held a Children’s Halloween Party on Friday, October 28. There were various games including a mummy wrap competition, pin the spider on the web, bug/spider toss arts, and guess the item. Children received small prizes at each game/activity. There were crafts including ghosts, Halloween bookmarks, and more! A special interactive Halloween story time was held as well. A drawing was held for a Halloween Children’s DVD and Halloween pen. Congratulations to our Coffee Middle School 6th grade students and administrators for winning our PBIS TROJAN FLUSH Award. Great job Dr. Horner for putting the basketball hoops over the boys trash can to help secure this victory. As Veterans’ Day arrives in the month of November, Coffee County Pre-K students are learning the important role veterans play in our community and country. As a special treat, Kentice Brockington, who is serving in the United States Army station overseas, read the book Bark George to his daughter’s (Kamille Brockington) class via CD on the Smart Board located in the classroom. Darrell Eugene Porter, age 50, of Nicholls, Ga passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
