West Green Elementary School celebrated Constitution Day on Friday, September 16. The assembly began when the NJROTC Color Guard presented the colors and the Pre-K and kindergarten students led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. Then, third grade students led everyone in the singing of “The National Anthem.” After that, students were recognized for creating Constitution Day artwork. Next, second grade students read the Preamble to the Constitution and first grade students shared their Constitution Mini Books. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men, behind only lung cancer. Rosie Veal was the speaker at the Douglas Kiwanis Club meeting Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Flyin’ Cowboy restaurant. She spoke about the General Educational Development (GED) and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes provided at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. Danny Bradley was the speaker at the Douglas Kiwanis Club meeting Tuesday, Sept. 6. Mr. Bradley spoke about the different types of ballistic vests and the level of protection each provides. In observance of Constitution Day, SGSC’s Assistant Professor of Political Science Frank Pridemore will host a presentation on Tuesday, September 20, at 7 p.m. in Stubbs Hall, room 142. The program will consist of a 30 minute video from the Annenberg Classroom entitled: A Conversation on the Constitution-Judicial Interpretation. Barbara Ann McQuaig, age 68, of Douglas, GA passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016, at residence following a brief illness. Ms. McQuaig was born on February 18, 1948, in Douglas, GA to the late Woodrow Courson and Vera Sapp Courson. Survivors include: her two sons, Matt (Lisie) McQuaig of Pearson, GA and Noah (Brenda) Brownell of Lakeland, FL; brother, Doug Courson of Greenville, SC; two sisters, Jean Clemons of Douglas, GA and Margie McGee of Glenwood, GA; four grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Evelyn Rigsby, age 92, of Broxton, GA passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Rigsby was born on September 23, 1923, in McRae, GA to the late James Patterson Webb and Lonnie Mae Graham Webb.
