Jerry William Bice, age 70, of Douglas, GA passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2015, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Bice was born on April 23, 1946, in Muskegon, MI to Emmitt Richard Bice and Carrie Whisenamt Bice. Survivors include: his wife, Beverly Bice of Douglas, GA; two daughters, Paula (Phil) Sogard of Hugo, MN and Brenda Bice of Muskegon, MI; sister, Sue Richmond of Muskegon, MI; six grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Westside students in grades 3, 4, and 5 who scored at the Proficient and/or Distinguished Level on all four sections of the Georgia Milestones were treated to a Smarty Party on May 18. Students enjoyed sliding down the water slide (special thanks to “Just Jump” for the rental), playing with beach balls, blowing bubbles, and other water activities. They also enjoyed eating lunch, watching a movie in the Westside Movie Theater (aka gymnasium), and utilizing personal technology with friends. Indian Creek Elementary School had the great pleasure to host a cookout and senior parade for 2015-16 Coffee High graduates who attended ICE during their elementary school years. Our current ICE students cheered for these seniors as they marched through our hallways and dreamed of the day when it would be their turn to wear the maroon graduation cap and gown. On Wednesday, May 18, Westside Elementary School students, teachers, staff, and parents were excited to welcome the seniors of 2016 back to where their educational career began. Students and staff excitedly lined the hallways awaiting the former “Wildcats” return. As the seniors made their way through the halls en route to the gym for one last “crossing of the bridge,” Westside Wildcats cheered them on with banners, well wishes, and high-fives! Children love being out of school for the summer, but, long summer days can sometimes make children bored and restless. Cory Baldwin, head men’s basketball coach at South Georgia State College (SGSC), will host his seventh annual “Baldwin’s Ballers” basketball camp this summer. The camp is open to boys and girls ages 6-15. Four-day sessions are scheduled for the weeks of June 13, 20, July 11, and 18 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on SGSC’s Waycross Campus. Each session is $80 per camper, which includes a t-shirt. A discount is available to campers who attend multiple sessions as well as family members of SGSC employees.
