New Coney, Texas, may be losing a soccer standout, but Douglas, Ga., has gained one in recent weeks. Samantha Rouse decided to bring her talents from Texas to Georgia by signing to play with the South Georgia State College Lady Hawks in the fall of 2016. A leader on the field and in the classroom at Splendora High School in Splendora, Texas, Rouse graduated as a dual credit student in the top 15% of her class and maintained honor roll throughout high school. Satilla Regional Library System welcomed Bright Star Touring Theatre to the Douglas-Coffee County and Pearson Public Libraries this week to perform the show, The Greatest: Sports Heroes from A-Z. The performers gave various examples of sports heroes from A-Z and opportunities for questions. They also encouraged the children to keep trying and never give up on their dreams. It was a fun and amusing performance for all that attended. This was the final Summer Reading Program performance for 2016 at Satilla Regional Library System. James Hoyt Hope, age 69, of Ambrose, GA passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Hope was born on January 29, 1947, in Ambrose, GA to the late Benjamin Hoyt Hope and Eunice Day Hope. The fall 2016 semester is quickly approaching, and South Georgia State College (SGSC) is gearing up for an exciting academic year. Classes begin Monday, August 15, 2016, at the Douglas and Waycross Campuses.
