Wiregrass Technical College Campus Police Chief Timothy Allmond attended the Chief Executive Training Class for newly appointed chiefs of police and heads of law enforcement agencies at the Dr. Curtis E. McClung Training Center in Duluth, GA., April 4 – 13. This training allows Chief Allmond with the knowledge and skills to be able to assist in providing a safe environment on each one of Wiregrass’ campuses. The 60-hour course, administered and provided by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP), is required by state law for all newly appointed heads of law enforcement agencies. The South Georgia State College Hawks swept a four-game series against the Andrew College Tigers last week, beating the Tigers 10-3 on April 26, 13-12 on April 28 and 5-4 and 7-1 in Douglas on April 30. The sweep pushes SGSC to 17-7 in the GCAA (32-19 overall), with another four-game series coming against ABAC May 3, 5, and 7. Satilla Archers participated in the NASP 3D Target challenge on April 23. Archers had the chance to shoot at targets shaped like real animals. The targets consisted of a turkey, coyote, antelope, bear, deer, and ram. Satilla placed 2nd as a team, with Brody Rish finishing 5th overall for elementary boys and Caitlin Wilson placing 6th overall for elementary girls. This Conference is sponsored by the Institute of Continuing Judicial Education and was held at Sea Palms Resort and Conference Center for Continuing Education in St. Simons Island on April 18-21. Students from South Georgia State College’s (SGSC) School of Nursing recently participated in a Teen Maze at Pierce County Middle School (PCMS). Some of the nursing students conducted educational presentations about positive and negative peer pressure, character, and abstinence. Other roles included serving as guides through the 12-station maze and providing hospitality to all event volunteers. Congratulations to Yolanda Daniels, who was recently recognized as Ambrose Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Daniels teaches 5th grade Math at Ambrose and was selected by her peers for the distinguished honor. This is her 10th year of teaching. Mr. Wilbert C. Rowell, age 79, of Douglas, GA died peacefully on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at Coffee Regional Medical Center with his two daughters and sister by his side. Mr. Rowell was born on April 18, 1937, in Nicholls, GA to the late Bartow Rowell and Ava Lee Mathis Rowell.
