Ludelle Moore, age 94, of Douglas, GA passed away on day, March 25, 2015, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Moore was born on January 20, 1922, in Nashville, GA to the late Early Danford Cobb and Mamie Lareen Holt Cobb. Survivors include: her daughter, Helen E. (Tim) Musgrove of Douglas, GA; three grandchildren; one niece, two nephews, and cousin, Alice Gieger. The Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Coffee Class of 2016 traveled to Atlanta recently to learn more about economic development at the state level. Participants in the class visited the capitol and met with local legislators Senator Tyler Harper, Representative Dominic LaRiccia and Representative Clay Pirkle for an update on the 2016 Georgia legislative session. Leadership Coffee is comprised of business and government leaders. The program is designed to educate these leaders in the workings of economic development. Coffee Middle School’s 8th grade symphonic band recently traveled to Wayne County High School to perform for a group of judges. They received all 1 (Superior) ratings from the judges on their Prepared Pieces Performance on stage. This is a huge accomplishment for the students, and they have worked very hard this semester to earn these ratings. They also received a 1 (Superior) in the Sight-Reading room. South Georgia State College’s baseball team swept a doubleheader March 22 by defeating Thomas University (JV) 5-0 and 3-2 in Douglas. In game one, the Hawks (18-13, 3-1) got on the board in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly by Conner Durden and an RBI single by Wyatt Petry to plate the first two runs of the game. The scoreboard remained silent until the Hawks piled on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the lead. Coffee Middle School Technology Student Association (TSA) students attended the annual Georgia TSA State Leadership Conference in Athens March 17 – 19. This annual event allows TSA members from the state to compete against other chapters in more than 35 competitive events ranging from Biotechnology to Video Game Design. Students have the opportunity to research and prepare reports and presentations and complete projects prior to the conference. The first day of spring had not yet arrived last week, but the South Georgia State College Hawks had spring baseball fever. In a four-game series against the East Georgia Bobcats March 15-17, SGSC won three of the games. The game on March 15 proved to be a tough pitching day for both teams as a total of twenty runs were scored in an 11-9 win for the Hawks. The teams totaled 26 hits, including nine extra base hits.
