The South Georgia State College Hawks (10-12) swept the Lake Michigan Red Hawks in a three-game series at home March 5-6 – 10-0, 9-3, and 13-2. The South Georgia State College baseball team split a home doubleheader March 3 with the junior varsity team from Point University, winning the first game 9-3 and dropping the second 5-3. In the first game of the series, SGSC jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Hawks tacked on another run in the second. Point University tied up the game in the top of the fourth, but SGSC followed with a five-run explosion. South Georgia State College’s men’s and women’s swim teams earned NJCAA runner-up honors last week at the NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Fort Pierce, Fla. Host Indian River State College won both sides of the meet for the 43rd year in a row. On the women’s side, SGSC took second place and Monroe Community College was third. For the men, SGSC was second and Iowa Central Community College placed third. First Academy will host an open house Thursday, March 10 for prospective Pre-K and Kindergarten families at 5:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church Chapel. The open house will be for all current three-year-old and Pre-K families, along with any new prospective families in the community. Attendees are asked to park in the Salvation Army parking lot, and the chapel is located directly across the street.
