Ms. Maxine White McCauley, age 82, of Broxton passed away peacefully at home, Saturday evening, June 11, 2016, with family members present. She was born September 22, 1933 to the late J. T. White and the late Millberry Jones White. Mrs. McCauley, a native of Coffee County, was a homemaker. She had been a resident of Broxton for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey McCauley, and a grandson, Mark Johnson. Mrs. McCauley was a member of the Broxton Baptist Church. Satilla Regional Library System welcomed storyteller Ms. Pat Nease to the Douglas-Coffee County & Pearson Public Libraries on Wednesday. Ms. Nease held a fun storytelling performance that encouraged movement, character portrayal, call and respond, sound effects, and songs. Some of the stories included The Billy Goat Rap, The Old Woman and her Pig, The Girl and the Geese, Abiyoyo, and many other fun stories. Georgia Republicans passed eight resolutions at their state convention Saturday, including a “Back to Basics” Republican Principles and Educational Resolution. The convention was held in Augusta June 3 and 4. The 3,500 party regulars also elected 31 delegates to their national convention in Cleveland next month, which also included a delegate from Coffee County. The votes came during the second day of the confab at the Augusta Convention Center.
