Satilla Archers participated in the NASP 3D Target challenge on April 23. Archers had the chance to shoot at targets shaped like real animals. The targets consisted of a turkey, coyote, antelope, bear, deer, and ram. Satilla placed 2nd as a team, with Brody Rish finishing 5th overall for elementary boys and Caitlin Wilson placing 6th overall for elementary girls. Beverly Johns recently attended the Council of Probate Court Judges Spring Conference. This Conference is sponsored by the Institute of Continuing Judicial Education and was held at Sea Palms Resort and Conference Center for Continuing Education in St. Simons Island on April 18-21. The judges attended judicial training courses, covering topics including: Weapons Carry License Issuance, Ethical Issues in Litigation and Legal Counsel, Overview of the updated edition of the Probate Judges’ Benchbook, Mental Health Law, Procedural Rules of the JQC, Civil Procedure, Due Process Fundamentals, Case Law Updates and Court Security Issues. Students from South Georgia State College’s (SGSC) School of Nursing recently participated in a Teen Maze at Pierce County Middle School (PCMS). Some of the nursing students conducted educational presentations about positive and negative peer pressure, character, and abstinence. Other roles included serving as guides through the 12-station maze and providing hospitality to all event volunteers. Congratulations to Yolanda Daniels, who was recently recognized as Ambrose Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Daniels teaches 5th grade Math at Ambrose and was selected by her peers for the distinguished honor. This is her 10th year of teaching. Kay Paulk Aldridge, age 71, of Willacoochee, GA passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at South Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Aldridge was born on May 6, 1944, in Ocilla, GA to the late Jacob Paulk and Mary Griner Paulk. Survivors include: her two sons, Troy (Lisa) Aldridge and Bryan Aldridge; three grandsons, Gage Aldridge, Drew Aldridge and Jim Aldridge; granddaughter, Kayla Aldridge; several nieces and nephews. The City of Douglas Public Works Department held the 2016 Great American Cleanup on Saturday April 16, 2016 to kickoff Georgia Cities Week. Approximately 30 volunteers helped to cleanup North Madison Avenue Park by collecting litter, trimming bushes, raking and picking up debris, along with cleaning the parking lot and shelter. After the cleanup, volunteers received Great American Cleanup participation certificates and were treated to a cook-out complete with all the trimmings.
