Coffee Middle School Technology Student Association (TSA) students attended the annual Georgia TSA State Leadership Conference in Athens March 17 – 19. This annual event allows TSA members from the state to compete against other chapters in more than 35 competitive events ranging from Biotechnology to Video Game Design. Students have the opportunity to research and prepare reports and presentations and complete projects prior to the conference. The first day of spring had not yet arrived last week, but the South Georgia State College Hawks had spring baseball fever. In a four-game series against the East Georgia Bobcats March 15-17, SGSC won three of the games. The game on March 15 proved to be a tough pitching day for both teams as a total of twenty runs were scored in an 11-9 win for the Hawks. The teams totaled 26 hits, including nine extra base hits. The South Georgia State College Lady Hawks (17-6, 3-1) hosted the Georgia Highlands Chargers in a conference matchup March 20 in Douglas. The Lady Hawks defeated the Chargers in game one by a score of 4-0 but fell behind in the seventh inning of game two to end with a 4-2 loss. In the opening game, SGSC’s Makayla Clark went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run in the first inning and a single in the fifth. Wynona Sarah Davis, age 75, of Valdosta, GA passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at South Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Davis was born on December 15, 1940, in Cartersville, GA to the late Robert McConnell and Carrie Hughes Davis McConnell. Robert Hope (Bob) Hulsey passed away March 15 after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A long-time resident of Decatur, GA, Bob was moved to Gardens of Roswell memory care facility in July of 2015, when caring for him at home was no longer possible. Bob was born on June 29, 1931, to Hope and Ruby Hulsey of Douglas, GA. He attended Douglas City Schools where he lettered in both track and football.
