4-H SHOTGUN TEAM WINS STATE The Coffee County 4-H Shotgun Team traveled to Savannah for the weekend of May 28th-29th to compete in the Georgia 4-H Trap and Skeet Match. The match was held at the Forest City Gun Club. Coffee 4-H had two Senior 4-H Teams (grade 9-12) and two Junior 4-H Teams (7th & 8th graders) to compete. Team members included Timmy Rewis, Huntington Smith, and Barron Thomas on one team and Jordan Davis, Brice Grantham, Lance Ricketson, and Blakely Tanner on the other. A member of South Georgia State College’s (SGSC) men’s basketball team has been named a 2016 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar by the magazine Diverse: Issues In Higher Education. Momodu Senghore, a 6’9″ redshirt freshman from Jonesboro, Ga., was a second team selection for the honor, which includes players from various NCAA Division I schools. “This is a signal achievement for Momodu Senghore,” said SGSC President Dr. Virginia Carson. “It reflects great credit on him and also on our head basketball coach Cory Baldwin.” During his time as head basketball coach, Baldwin has made academics a top priority among his…
South Georgia State College (SGSC) will honor retiring President Dr. Virginia Carson at two separate celebrations during the month of June. Carson will retire from SGSC June 30 after leading the institution for eight years. The first celebration is scheduled for Tuesday, June 7 from 5-7 p.m. in the Administrative Building on the Waycross Campus. The second celebration will take place Thursday, June 9 beginning at 5 p.m. in Engram Hall on the Douglas Campus. The public is invited to attend one or both of the events. – Submitted
