Mr. John Wesley Davis, age 96, of West Green, GA passed away Wednesday evening , January 18, 2017 at the home of his son, Charlie Davis, in West Green. Mr. Davis was born November 7, 1920 to the late Lewis Charlton Davis and the late Sophronie C. Lewis Davis. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Jimmie Lee Fussell Davis and a daughter Peggy Davis Sayer. Each nine weeks, students at West Green Elementary have the opportunity to earn a special reward called “Pizza with the Principal” at the end of the grading period. There were first, second, and fifth grade students who earned the reward for the end of the second nine weeks. The first grade students who earned the reward have learned at least 600 sight words. The second grade students who earned the reward have at least 75 Reading Counts points, while the fifth grade students have read at least one million words. With the 2017 season approaching, South Georgia State College’s head softball coach Nicki Levering has high expectations for her squad. Returning are four starters from the 2016 GCAA Regular Season Championship squad including GCAA First Team All-Region players Chelsea Lyons and Megan Farmer along with GCAA Second Team All-Region outfielder Halie Pearce. CLOVERLEAF 4-H CAMP SIGN UP Cloverleaf 4-H Camp for 4th – 6th grade 4-H members will be held at the Rock Eagle 4‑H Center (near Eatonton, GA) during the week of June 12-16. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Fatality Review Unit hosted an event on Thursday, Jan. 19, to announce the planned distribution of 300 demonstration dolls to law enforcement agencies throughout the state for use in the investigation of serious child injury and/or death cases. The dolls are the approximate dimensions of a 3-month old baby and are a realistic tool for investigators in reenacting and photographing incident scenes. South Georgia State College’s (SGSC) O’Showen Williams has been named the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division I Player of the Week. A 5’11” freshman from Macon, Ga., Williams averaged 24 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 steals in conference games against Central Georgia Tech and Gordon State. For the season, Williams is averaging 15.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game. He is third overall in assists (90) and fifth in free throw percentage (78.6).
