Wiregrass Georgia Technical College announces the return of the Business Technology program on the Ben Hill-Irwin and Coffee campuses for Spring Semester 2016. Classes for Spring Semester begin January 11, 2016. The campuses will be offering Business Management and Business Technology diplomas and degrees. In the Business Management Program students can specialize in General Management, Service Sector Management, or Human Resources Management. The Douglas-Coffee County Parks and Recreation Department will host the nationally recognized Doyle Academy on March 19, 2016. Americas #1 Camp will instruct baseball and softball players between the ages of six and 15 in hitting, throwing and fielding during the one-day school. The school will be held from noont to 5 p.m. at the Greg Walker Sports Complex located at the Coffee Middle School. Doyle Baseball, in its 37th year of operation, conducts satellite schools all over the United States and Canada. More than 900,000 players have benefited from Doyle’s expert instruction. Satilla Regional Library recently held their Children’s Christmas Party on Saturday, December 5, at the Douglas/Coffee County Public Library. There were various Christmas crafts including fuzzy stick Christmas trees, small beaded green wreaths, snowflakes, and more. The games were Christmas tree ring toss, pin the nose on the snowman, snowman slam, and bingo/card games. There was a raffle for two prize bags for children including a Christmas movie, snowman stuffed animal, and pencil set. Those in attendance enjoyed cupcakes and cider for refreshments. On Tuesday, December 15, beginning at 10 a.m., the Coffee County School System will be holding a ground breaking ceremony for the new Billy Walker Agriculture Center that will be constructed on the campus of Coffee Middle School beginning in 2016. Funded through the recent SPLOST campaign in 2013, the new agriculture center will be named after Mr. Walker, who retired from the school system in 1979, serving as an agriculture teacher in the Coffee County School System for many years. South Georgia State College’s men’s and women’s swim teams returned with impressive finishes from a three-day meet at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). The men’s team finished third out of eight teams participating, and the women’s team placed fourth out of nine teams.
