Rosa Chaney, age 92, of Douglas, GA passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at Southern Senior Living following an extended illness. Mrs. Chaney was born on March 13, 1923, in Douglas, GA to the late Lovett Burch and Elizabeth Wynn Burch. South Georgia State College (SGSC) would like to announce its designation as an educational institution that has agreed to the “Principles of Excellence” through the U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as well as the “8 Keys to Veterans’ Success,” created by executive order from the Obama Administration earlier this spring. The “Principles of Excellence” were created to help ensure military and veterans have information, support, and protections while using federal education benefits. The students and staff at Coffee Middle School would like to thank Wendy’s of Douglas/Stafford Foods for sponsoring our quarterly perfect attendance drawing for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades this year. Wendy’s donates an iPod to one student per grade per nine weeks for perfect attendance during that quarter. South Georgia State College’s men’s and women’s swim teams continued their winning ways Nov. 14 by placing first at the LaGrange Invitational in LaGrange, Ga. “It was the same two teams we competed against in our home opener, but this was more of a sprint meet format.
