City of Douglas Main Street announced it will participate in this year’s American Express Small Business Saturday, taking place November 28. Mr. Brian Bice, age 36 of Douglas, passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at home following an extended illness. Mr. Bice was born June 27, 1979, at Newport News, Virginia, to Jerry William Bice and Beverly Ann Alex Bice. He was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity at Georgia Southwestern University. South Georgia State College’s men’s basketball team improved its record to 5-0 Saturday afternoon with a 109-42 win over Summer Hill. The Hawks had four players score in double digits for the first time this season. Tyrone Sam was the leading scorer with 19 points, six rebounds, and one assist. Donovon Robinson had 18 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Andre Elam finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and three steals, while Jordan Young rounded out the top scorers with 11 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College will offer a driver’s education 36-hour course on the Coffee Campus December 21, 22, 28, and 29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The six hour behind the wheel driving will be scheduled after classroom instruction ends. The program consists of 30 hours of classroom training and six hours of training behind the wheel. The program is designed to meet the training requirements of Joshua’s law as well as provide six of the 40 hours of supervised driving that teens must have before obtaining their driver’s license. The Satilla Regional Library System welcomed Mrs. Rowe’s and Mrs. Worth’s second and third grade classes from Indian Creek Elementary School to the Douglas/Coffee County Public Library on Thursday, November 12, for Thanksgiving story time. As fall and Halloween arrived during October, creepy crawly spiders landed on the top of Eastside Elementary Pre-K students. The students have been focusing on some of the old nursery rhymes that many of their parents and grandparents learned as they grew up. Two of the students’ favorites were The Itsy Betsy Spider and Little Miss Muffet. The children enjoyed participating in the finger play as well as acting out Little Miss Muffet with props and music. With the Georgia State Indicator rule, students should not miss more than six days of school – excused or unexcused, being implemented, our parents, students, and staff are working extra hard to make sure perfect attendance is at the top of our priority list.
