Douglas First United Methodist Church (DFUMC) Preschool is now accepting applications for one, two and three-year-old students for the 2015-16 school year. Charles Joe Polk, Sr., age 86, of Douglas, GA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Polk was born on March 1, 1929, in Sandersville, GA to the late Josiah Isaac Polk and Sarah Lucetta Jenkins Polk. Survivors include: his sons, James M. Florence Lastinger, age 97, of Douglas, GA passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, GA following a brief illness. Mrs. Lastinger was born on October 26, 1917, in Pearson, GA to the late Thomas McCall Smith and Mary Corbitt Smith. Ricky Allen Thompson, age 61, of Douglas, GA passed away on Monday, April 13, 2015, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Thompson was born on March 15, 1954, in Douglas, GA to the late J.C. Thompson and Helen Thompson. The Douglas Police Department will be conducting a Citizen Police Academy course starting August 13 at the Douglas Police Department. The course lasts eight weeks, and a light meal and refreshments will be provided.
