Westside hosted “Family Writing Night: Super Powered Writers” on February 19. Those in attendance enjoyed songs performed by second grade super writers, learned about the writing components of the Georgia Milestones (new state assessment), and had the pleasure of meeting a real writing super hero, Captain Penmanship (AKA First Grade Teacher, Trent Bennett). In addition, fifth grade students were presented with their published books they created under the guidance of fifth grade teacher, Ms. April Dockery. Congratulations to Westside third grader Noah Cliett for winning an iPod during a celebration assembly that was held January 23. Noah’s name, along with those of all students who had perfect attendance during the second grading period, was placed in a drawing, and he was the lucky winner. Special thanks to Wendy’s Restaurant for donating the iPod awarded to Noah. Thomas Graham, age 73, of Broxton, GA passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at Hospice Atlanta in Atlanta, GA following an extended illness.
