Five region managers have been selected to support the agency’s mission of protecting and conserving Georgia’s forest resources. The regions cover all of the state’s 159 counties. Since its inception in 2017, the Georgia Rural Hospital Organization (RHO) tax credit initiative has improved the financial well‐being of rural hospitals and health outcomes throughout the state. Georgia taxpayer contributions have enabled eligible rural hospitals to strengthen their ability to deliver preventative, critical, and emergency medical care. The GBI has arrested and charged Mako Jones, Jr., age 19, of Baxley, Georgia, with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. Jones turned himself in to the Appling County Jail on January 4, 2024. On Tuesday, January 2, 2024, the Baxley Police Department asked the GBI investigate. The investigation shows that Jones shot Mike Sims, age 31, of Baxley, GA, multiple times while they were near Hopps Street. The City of Douglas will hold 12 open house dates in 2024 for the public to view renovations of Barracks #5 located at Douglas Municipal Gene Chambers Airport.
