Jo Jo Bell and Kyric Davis scored a combined total of 51 points Saturday afternoon as the South Georgia State College Hawks held on to defeat the Central Georgia Tech Titans 77-69. A 17-year-old high school student returned to school after the Christmas break only to end up taken out of Coffee High School in handcuffs due to an alleged incident that took place over a cell phone before school that morning. According to a report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, January 5, 2024, a complainant called 911 around 7 a.m. and reported that a 17-year-old who lived at the residence had gotten angry because of a cell phone. The Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) is strengthening its connection to communities across the state by naming region managers to lead local operations. Five region managers have been selected to support the agency’s mission of protecting and conserving Georgia’s forest resources. The regions cover all of the state’s 159 counties. Since its inception in 2017, the Georgia Rural Hospital Organization (RHO) tax credit initiative has improved the financial well‐being of rural hospitals and health outcomes throughout the state. Georgia taxpayer contributions have enabled eligible rural hospitals to strengthen their ability to deliver preventative, critical, and emergency medical care. Effective in 2023, legislators increased the program cap from $60 to $75 million, and enthusiasm was evident as Georgia taxpayers had applied for the entire $75 million of available credits by mid‐ November. The GBI has arrested and charged Mako Jones, Jr., age 19, of Baxley, Georgia, with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. Jones turned himself in to the Appling County Jail on January 4, 2024. On Tuesday, January 2, 2024, the Baxley Police Department asked the GBI investigate. The investigation shows that Jones shot Mike Sims, age 31, of Baxley, GA, multiple times while they were near Hopps Street. The City of Douglas will hold 12 open house dates in 2024 for the public to view renovations of Barracks #5 located at Douglas Municipal Gene Chambers Airport. The building, Barracks #5, is a part of the historic World War II Army-Air Force Flight Training Air Base and was utilized as housing for the cadets that trained at the Air Base before transferring to other bases to advance their flight training.
