The first annual First Academy Show and Sell, which will include a dinner, silent auction, and live auction, will be held Thursday, April 16 at First Baptist Church of Douglas. The Boys and Girls Club of Coffee County visited the World War II Flight Training Museum on Thursday as a part of their Spring Break field trip schedule. The group was greeted by a World War II-era Women Airforce Service Pilot (WASP) re-enactor and then marched into the two-room museum, which is housed in an original cadet barracks. After learning about cadet life on the base and during battle in World War II, the group marched past the historical buildings and over to the restoration hangars where everyone got a peek into a B-17 and plane restoration. The South Georgia State College Lady Hawks softball team won two games against Gordon State College this weekend following two losses against East Georgia State College on Thursday, bringing the season record to 13 wins overall, 6 wins in the GCAA conference. Thursday’s game one against East Georgia was neck-and-neck. East Georgia scored in the second and third innings, and the Lady Hawks responded with runs in the fourth and seventh earned by Haley Heath, Macey Chancey, Whitney Oliver, and Madison Smith. The South Georgia State College Hawks won two of three games against Andrew College recently. Thursday’s game against Andrew had Charles Wilson on the mound for the first four innings, where he allowed one run in the first, then none in the second and third, walked none, and struck out two. Josh Smith took over on the mound for the remaining four innings, where he walked six, struck out one, and allowed four runs, bringing Andrew’s total to five. Hendrix “Hank” Deloney, age 94, of Moultrie, GA passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Deloney was born on September 24, 1920, in Ozark, AL to the late John Oscar Deloney and Josie Luna Ezell Deloney. Survivors include: his three daughters, Joanne, Judy, and Kathy; and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice and a son, Johnny. This past week, Coffee County juries returned guilty verdicts on two separate trials. On Tuesday, March 24, a jury returned a guilty verdict on Lorenzo Wells, charged with armed robbery. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney John Rumker. The jury heard evidence of an armed man who entered Aden’s Minit Mart on December 15, 2013 in the City of Douglas. The man brandished a firearm and demanded money from the register and from the clerk himself. After forcing the clerk to lie down on the ground, the man fled the scene.
