The No. 17 South Georgia State College Hawks utilized a 14-4 run midway through the second half Wednesday night to survive an upset bid by East Georgia State, defeating the Bobcats, 89-75. A new docent, Kelly Hoomes, has joined the World War II Flight Training Museum. Kelly is certified by the National Association of Interpretation as an interpretive guide and interpretive planner. She also possesses historic aviation knowledge that she gained while working at the Wright Brothers National Memorial at the Museum of Alabama in Montgomery. Kelly is experienced in education programs and tour development, and her primary goal is to provide a meaningful and positive tour for our Museum visitors. The City of Douglas and Transwaste are offering a Junk Drop-Off Day in January to help citizens get rid of excess trash. The date will be Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the 9th Grade Academy located on the corner of Pine Street and Gaskin Avenue from 8 a.m. -12 p.m. On Community Junk Drop-Off Days, a dumpster will be placed in a different neighborhood to offer residents a way to dispose of large, non-hazardous items and electronic items at no cost. Mr. Benny Lindsey Whittington, age 65, of Douglas passed away early Saturday morning, January 10, 2015, at the Mayo Clinic, in Jacksonville, Florida, following a short illness. He was born October 15, 1949 to the late Benny Cornelius Whittington and the late Hazel Louise Ross Whittington. Mr. Whittington, a native of Hartford, Alabama, was a Truck Driver for Wal-Mart for 25 years. He had been living in the Coffee County area for several years. Transwaste and the City of Douglas has pulled the recycling dumpster from the drop center located at the City of Douglas Public Works Department.
