Mary Jeanette Deaton, age 75, of West Green, GA passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2015, at Appling Healthcare Pavilion following an extended illness. Mrs. Deaton was born on August 7, 1939, in Atkinson County, GA to the late Steve Corbitt and Mary Grace Wright Corbitt. Head coach Cory Baldwin and the South Georgia State College Hawks basketball team recently received numerous awards from the NJCAA, Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA), and the Georgia Basketball Coaches Association (GABCA). Baldwin was named Coach of the Year both by the GCAA and GABCA. He led the Hawks (27-6, 14-4) to their first-ever GCAA regular season championship and to the GCAA Conference Tournament championship game. The first annual First Academy Show and Sell, which will include a dinner, silent auction, and live auction, will be held Thursday, April 16 at First Baptist Church of Douglas. The Boys and Girls Club of Coffee County visited the World War II Flight Training Museum on Thursday as a part of their Spring Break field trip schedule. The group was greeted by a World War II-era Women Airforce Service Pilot (WASP) re-enactor and then marched into the two-room museum, which is housed in an original cadet barracks.
