Kensley James, 20, of Douglas, is being held in the Coffee County Jail without bond on several charges, including aggravated assault, after an alleged domestic incident that occurred around 6:45 p.m. on April 4, 2026.
According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, James was living in a home on Sibbett Avenue when he got into a dispute with the couple who lived in the home. When the call came through, 911 operators could hear yelling and cursing in the background, the report says.
When the first officer arrived, he could hear arguing inside the home. James opened the door, the report says, and admonished the homeowner for calling the police. The he shut the door. While the officer was on scene, the report says that James made several profanity-laced threats toward the complainant.
According to the report, the incident began when the complainant took James to a store and James asked him for money to buy a Black & Mild. When the complainant said he didn’t have any money, they went back home. Then, the report says, James locked the complainant out of the home. Another resident let the complainant in, at which point James began turning off the power inside the home, according to the report. James then asked to borrow the complainant’s phone but refused to give it back. James also pushed the complainant down, the report says.
Another resident attempted to intervene and James allegedly hit him in the shin with a metal walker, causing a visible injury. Then James threatened both individuals, saying he was going to kill them, according to the report.
James was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, three counts of terroristic threats and acts, and simple battery. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail where is being held without bond.
