Mrs. Lula Minna Spitzer Duren, age 97 of Douglas, passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 29, 2021 at Vista Park following an extended illness. Mrs. Duren was born July 10, 1923 to the late Gus Spitzer and the late Matilda Budenburg Spitzer. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Duren, Sr., 1 Daughter, Joyce Duren; 4 Brothers: Albert, Alvin, Thomas and Lee and 3 Sisters: Edna, Alice and Ella.

Mrs. Duren, a native of Turnersville, TX, was the fifth child of eight. When Lula was older, the family moved to the Garnerville Community, Bosque County, TX where they lived on a farm. She attended school in Bosque County. Lula met Dan Duren while he was stationed at Fort Hood, TX near her home. A couple of years later, they were united in marriage on May 5, 1945. When he was discharged, they moved to Douglas, where they made their home. They were blessed with 3 children, twin daughters, Joyce and Janice and 1 son, Dan, Jr. Mrs. Duren was a member of Chatterton Grove Holiness Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years.

Survivors include:

Son: Dan Duren, Jr. of Douglas, GA

Daughter: Janice Nettles and husband Bobby of Douglas, GA

Grandchildren: Justin, Jason, Brandy, Pamela and Lisa all of Douglas, GA

7 Great Grandchildren

Numerous Great Great Grandchildren

A number of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends both in Georgia and Texas

The graveside service and interment will be Friday morning, July 2, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Chatterton Cemetery with Rev. Harold Barnes and Rev. Rob Merritt officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday morning, July 2, 2021 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Ricketson Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers for the service will be Justin Duren, Steven Paulk, Travis Davis, Raul Torres, Rodney Peterson and Kirk Peterson.

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
