Mitchell E. Tanner, age 68, of Nicholls, GA, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12th, 2026 at Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville Florida. He was born on September 17th, 1957, the son of the late Ernest Tanner and the late Louise Stone Tanner.
His survivors include three sons: Casey (Diana) Tanner of Broxton, GA, Ashley (Amanda) Tanner of Nicholls, GA, and Cody Tanner of Douglas, GA; one daughter, Michele Tanner of Douglas, GA; five grandchildren: Hunter Tanner, Haleigh Tanner, Ashton Tanner, Alaine Tanner, and Annadru Tanner; one great grandchild, Kataleya Burns; three sisters: Betty Jo Moore of Douglas, GA, Fairlee Rojas of Douglas, GA, and Evie Day of Blackshear, GA; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: father, Ernest Tanner; mother, Louise Stone; two brothers, Melvin Tanner and Floyd Tanner; two sisters, Becky Reyes Tanner and Joanne Weathers.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 16th, 2026, at Sims Funeral Home in Douglas, GA, from the hours of 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 16th, 2026, at the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home in Douglas, GA, at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Matthew McEachern officiating.
Active pallbearers will include: Darren Wiggins, Lee Ellis, Adam Iglesias, Ashton Tanner, Russell Weather, and Bailey Weather.
Honorary pallbearers include: Hunter Tanner.
