Patricia Joan Thompson passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026 at the age of 88 after a prolonged illness. She was a lifelong Baptist and her family finds peace in the knowledge that she was joyfully accepted into the arms of her savior, Jesus Christ.
Patty relocated to Douglas, Georgia ten years ago to be near family. Prior to that move she grew up and spent her life in southern Ohio and that is where she will be laid to rest.
We will always remember her for her love of all animals, traveling, country music, the outdoors, camping, and working in her flower beds. For several years after moving to Douglas she was active in dog rescue, even trading her car in for a van so that she (with the help of her daughter) could transport more dogs from Douglas, Fitzgerald, Tifton and other South Georgia shelters to rescues all across Georgia and Florida. She made good friends in Douglas among neighbors, members of the Senior Citizen’s Club, and the Red Hat Society. She valued spending time with those friends and, especially, family more than anything.
Patty is survived by her daughter Debra Childers (Brian Keith), her six grandchildren: Alexander Bridwell (Blair), Sierra Childers, Silas Childers, Felicia Allen Beers, Cody Allen, and Olivia Allen, as well as great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents William Roscoe and Myrtle Evans, her husband George Thompson, her son Dean Allen, siblings Clarence Evans, Irene Gammon, Helen Strickland, Alma Payton, David Evans, and Peggy Whitehouse, as well as nephews Robert Whitehouse, Larry Evans, and David Payton.
The family will receive friends Wednesday july1, 2026 at Sims Funeral Home from 3:00 to 4:00pm.
The funeral service will be at Sims Funeral Home at 4:00pm, officiated by Reverend William McNeill, Deacon of St. Andrews Anglican Church.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests all donations be made to the Coffee County Cause of Paws of Douglas, GA.
