The Douglas City Cemetery Advisory Board recently received approval from the mayor and commissioners to establish an area in which to scatter cremains.  Prior to now, the cemetery had no area established for cremains scattering, and the board will now move forward to create a scatter garden, which will be known as the Olive Garden.

Other cemeteries throughout Georgia in recent years have opened areas to scatter cremated remains.  These areas are called scattering gardens, and they provide choices for personal memorization within this dedicated area.

At the Douglas City Cemetery Information Station, a record will be kept of the service, the person’s name and the date of the service.

“Several requests have been made over the years for a place in which to scatter loved ones remains,” says Henry Milhollin, Cemetery Coordinator.  “The advisory board is very pleased that the mayor and commission have voted to allow a section of the cemetery to be designated for this purpose.”

The Olive Garden is located adjacent to the northwest corner of Section “S” in the cemetery. It can be reached by turning left at the information station and proceeding to the green footbridge on the left or southside of Section “T.”  The section will tie in with the nature trail that is currently under onstruction.

A permit will be required to scatter remains in the Olive Garden.

For more information, contact Henry Milhollin, Cemetery Coordinator, at 912-393-4796.
