Officials with the Alma Police Dept. provided the following information Sunday regarding several recent felony arrests:

Officers stopped a vehicle on E. 19th St. at the intersection of S. Wayne St. on July 26. As an officer exited his patrol car, the passenger of the vehicle fled the location through Rose Hill Cemetery.  APD officers and the Bacon County Sheriff’s Office quickly established a perimeter around the cemetery.

After a bloodhound was dispatched to the scene, the suspect was found hiding in a storage shed at a residence on E. 17th St.  Jason Edward Thompson (29) of Alma was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant for possession of methamphetamine, in addition to obstruction of a law enforcement officer, driving with a suspended license, and a seatbelt violation, charges which stemmed from a July 9 traffic stop after Thompson fled police.  Thompson was additionally charged on the 26th with obstruction of law enforcement officers.

The driver of the vehicle, Janine Ann Taylor (29) of Alma, was arrested for obstruction of law enforcement officers for failure to identify Thompson after he fled.

Friday afternoon, July 29, APD initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle occupied by Rever Dale Morris and a female driver on E. 7th St. at the intersection of N. Ware St.  During the course of the traffic stop, officers discovered a large quantity of prescription medications, all of which appeared to be legitimate, except for a package of Oxycodone 30mg tablets and a .357 revolver.

The driver of the vehicle was originally detained, but was soon released after Morris admitted he had placed the tablets in her purse during the traffic stop.

Morris (58) Alma was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and issued a citation for a seatbelt violation.  Charges are pending concerning the weapon discovered.  The driver was released without charges.

During the early morning hours of July 31, officers with APD and the Ware County Sheriff’s Office arrested Abbie Gail King (59) of Waycross at her home without incident.  King had been identified as the suspect wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation between the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and APD.

King was arrested for financial transaction card fraud after law enforcement discovered King had fraudulently used a stolen credit card belonging to a Fayetteville, GA resident to withdraw funds from an ATM located at Alma Exchange Bank on S. Pierce St.

King faces no less than 13 counts of financial card transaction fraud in Alma alone, in addition to charges in Fayette County and possibly Pierce and Ware Counties.  Thus far, Fayette County investigators have discovered King participated in the theft of over $30 thousand from one victim in Fayetteville; law enforcement is currently attempting to identify and locate other victims in connection with this investigation.

APD encourages citizens to monitor their banking accounts / credit accounts on a regular basis.  Anyone with information concerning this incident is encouraged to contact the Alma Police Department (912-632-8751) or the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office (770-716-4750).
