Vernie Kight, Jr., age 87, of Hazlehurst, GA passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at Genesis Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Kight was born on May 11, 1929, in Douglas, GA to the late Vernie Kight, Sr. and Ruby Blount Kight.

Survivors include: his brother, Gene (Marilyn) Kight of Broxton, GA; three nieces, Michele (Leon) Smith of Fitzgerald, GA, Kathy (Carl) Smith of Fitzgerald, GA, and Lisa Littleton of Phenix City, AL; three nephews, Freddie (Regina) Kight of Columbus, OH, Alan (Beth) Kight of Elkhart, IN, and Jimmy Kight of Jonesboro, GA. He was preceded in death by wife, Alma Smith Kight; his parents, and a sister, Kathleen Hatfield.

The family will receive friends Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Sims Funeral Home. Graveside Service will be held on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Pridgen Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jeremy Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Pridgen Baptist Church Cemetery.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
