If you’re operating an unregistered, uninsured vehicle on the roadway, common sense would probably tell you it’s a bad idea to intentionally drive recklessly, especially in the presence of law enforcement. Common sense apparently evades 40-year-old Ronald James Corbitt of Douglas, who was jailed yesterday on multiple charges after leading deputies on a brief high-speed chase.

Around 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, a Coffee County deputy observed a motorcycle turn onto the Ga. Hwy. 206 Connector off U.S. Hwy. 441, accelerating at a high rate of speed and lifting the front tire off the roadway. The deputy initiated a traffic stop, and the driver fled, leading the deputy on a chase that topped speeds of 100 mph, while committing an array of traffic offenses in the process.

Corbitt eventually ditched the motorcycle around Quincey Batten Loop and fled on foot into a wooded area, but was quickly apprehended. Corbitt was found to be unlicensed and was operating the unregistered vehicle without insurance. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail and charged with fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, no insurance, operating an unregistered vehicle, and numerous other traffic violations.
