James Daniel Brown, Jr, age 71, of Douglas, passed away on Friday September 7, 2018 at Community Hospice, Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. Brown was born on September 28, 1946 in Columbus, Georgia, the son of the late James Daniel Brown, Sr. and Lorita Virginia Jones Brown.
Mr. Brown worked as an electrician in the United States Navy retiring after twenty-one years of service. Afterwards Mr. Brown was formerly employed by Fleetwood and most recently with Elixir Extrusions. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Douglas and a member of Masonic Lodge #386.
Survivors include his wife, Sara Rose Brown of Douglas; daughter, Amber Brown of Seattle, Washington; two step-sons, Eddie Watson and wife Jennifer of Winder and Jimmy C. Watson of Douglas; five grandchildren, Patrick Watson, Taylor Watson, J.C. Watson, Camden Watson and Peyton Watson; two brothers, Archie Brown and wife Rosemary of Douglas and Steve Brown and wife Melinda; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday September 11, 2018 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church with Rev. Shep Johnson officiating. Interment followed at Douglas City Cemetery with military honors by the United States Navy. Sara Brown sang “Amazing Grace My Chains are Gone” and congregational songs were “How Great Thou Art” and “Precious Memories” with Marsha Gillard on piano. Prelude and postlude music was provided by Marsha Gillard. Pallbearers were Richie Botelho, Landon Botelho, Blake Brown, Craig Brown, Lawton Brown, Danny Leccese, David Weeks and Jack Cliett. Honorary pallbearers were members of Masonic Lodge #386 and co-workers with Elixir Extrusions.
Sims Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
