Mary Frances Vickers Wilkes, age 84, of Douglas, passed away on Saturday September 15, 2018 at Coffee Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Wilkes was born on April 18, 1934 in Douglas, the daughter to the late Harvey Vickers, Sr and Vivian Davis Vickers.

 

Mrs. Wilkes was the former social editor for the Douglas Enterprise, author of “Three Shades Lace” published in 1970, and was a member of Carver Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Adelyn Marie Wilkes, and a brother, Harvey Vickers, Jr.

 

Survivors include her son, Jack Martin ” Marty” Wilkes and wife Karen of Marietta; three grandchildren, Rev. Andrew Martin Wilkes and wife Kristy of Georgetown, S.C., Kaleb Aaron Wilkes and wife Jordan of Marietta and Kaley June Tanner and husband Jameson of Canton; three great-grandchildren, Harper Marie Wilkes, Barrett Andrew Wilkes and Olsen Phillip Tanner; sister, Lataine Vickers Smith of Douglas.

 

Funeral services were held on Tuesday September 18, 2018 at 11 am at Carver Baptist Church with Rev. Andrew Martin Wilkes officiating. Rev. Larry Stone officiated the graveside service. Interment followed in the Carver Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jameson Tanner, John Brantley, Kaleb Wilkes, Mark Grantham, McKinley Musgrove, Dylan Ellis and Justin Peterson.
