October promotions at the City of Douglas

During the month of October, the City of Douglas will be offering several promotions for their customers.  Throughout the month, activities will be designed to educate and show appreciation for Douglas customers.

Customer Appreciation Month will be held the entire month of October.  Customers are encouraged to register for a $100 credit on their utility account that five lucky customers will win at a drawing on Friday, October 25, 2019 at City Hall.  City of Douglas customers will have the opportunity to enjoy FREE hot dogs, chips, and Coke on Friday, October 11, 2019 from 11am – 3pm. Each week during the month of October, the City of Douglas Facebook page will recognize the different divisions that make up the City Clerk and Customer Service Department as a part of educating citizens the daily roles this department plays within the City of Douglas.  For more information about the City of Douglas Customer Service Division please dial 311 or call 384-3302.

The Douglas Utilities Department will be promoting Natural Gas Month throughout the month of October.  In preparation for the cooler months, customers can call and schedule a FREE pilot lighting – this is a savings of $10!  For more information about Natural Gas month, please call (912) 389-3427. Public Power week will be held Oct. 6 – 12, 2019.  During this week, customers are encouraged to “thank a lineman” and to become more educated about the utility services that are provided by Douglas Utilities.  For more information about the Douglas Utilities Department, please call (912) 389-3445.

The Douglas Fire Department is teaming up with NFPA during Fire Prevention Week, October 6-12, 2019, to spread awareness of testing smoke alarms.  This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is “Not All Heroes Wear Capes: Plan and Practice Your Escape.” The purpose of the theme is to focus on the importance of planning and practicing fire escape in the home, business, and school.  Each day during Fire Prevention Week, the City of Douglas Fire Department Facebook page will feature our local heroes in the Douglas Fire Department. Often times, these brave men and women fight fires and save citizens without a moment of hesitation without recognition.  Fire education programs will be offered for all ages through fire prevention presentations in the schools, daycares, and other places of business. To schedule a visit from our City of Douglas Fire Department or to learn more about their outreach programs, please contact Shirley Ross, (912) 384-4815.  Customers can register at City Hall for a drawing that will be held on October 25, 2019 for FREE smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. Through these educational, family-oriented activities, residents can learn more about the importance of smoke alarms and fire safety, as well as the power of fire prevention and education.  For more information about fire prevention week, call (912) 384-4815.
