Leo Gilliard, age 70, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Monday, May 25, 2021 at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Mr. Gilliard was born on September 22, 1950 in Axson, Georgia the son of the late George Washington and Emma Dora Thigpen Gilliard.

 

Mr. Gilliard was a contractor in the construction business, a member and deacon of Eastside Baptist Church, Douglas, GA and was a veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Reavis, Talmadge, Larry and Leroy Gilliard.

 

Survivors include his wife, Barbara G. Gilliard of Douglas, GA; 2 sons, Kevin Leo Gilliard (Kelly) of Broxton, GA and Daniel Ashley Gilliard (Ashley) of Douglas, GA; 4 grandchildren, Kylee Brooke Gilliard, Conor Gilliard, Aly Gilliard and Delilah Gilliard; 2 sisters, Eloise Spivey of Douglas, GA and Louise Wilson of Douglas, GA; brother, Ed Gilliard of Douglas, GA; several nieces and nephews.

 

The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon, May 27, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church.

 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church with Rev. Christian Colson and Rev. Joel Auger officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Hoboken, GA with Rev. Randall Gunter officiating. Pallbearers will be Drew Gilliard, Nathan Moore, Chris Wilson, Rex Ricketson, Jason Gilliard, Ronnie Cato and Ashley Cato. Honorary pallbearers will be Leo’s Men’s Sunday School Class and Old Men’s Walking Group – Ira Sharpe, Larry Crosby and Johnny Knight.

 

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
