4-H’ers compete in shotgun, DPA competitions

The Coffee County 4-H Shotgun team traveled to Savannah for the weekend of May 28-30 to compete in the Georgia 4-H Trap, Skeet, and Sport Clays Match. The match was held at the Forest City Gun Club. Coffee 4-H had two senior 4-H teams (grade 9-12) to compete in the match. Teams can be composed of three to four members. Team members included Alex Dunn, Gavin Grantham, Cara Lott, Hudson Lott, Drew Purvis, Michael Roberts, and Weston Vickers. Senior 4-H shooters shoot 100 rounds in Trap, 100 rounds in Skeet, and 100 rounds in Sporting Clays.

     

 

The teams were divided into team 1 and team 2. Team 1 members included Alex Dunn, Cara Lott, Hudson Lott, and Drew Purvis. Team 2 members included Gavin Grantham, Michael Roberts, and Weston Vickers.

    

 

Alex Dunn was recognized for third place high individual in the trap competition, third place high individual in the skeet competition, third place high individual overall. Coffee 1 team was also recognized as the third place team in the contest.

    

 

Coaches for the teams include Richard Grantham, Emily Purvis, and Jody Ridlehoover. A special thank you goes out to our coaches for their dedicated service and to the shotgun team parents for their support of all of the team members competing. Congratulations shooters and coaches on your successes this year.

 

GOAT AND LAMB SHOW INFO

    

 

It’s time to get signed up for the coming year’s County and State 4-H and FFA Goat Shows. We will be holding our first tagging day for the goats and lambs at the Coffee Middle School Livestock Building on Monday, June 21, from 4 to 6 PM. Please come prepared to complete all necessary paperwork, assist with tagging your animals, and pay your registration fees. For more information, please contact the 4-H office at (912) 384-1402, or any of the Coffee County School System agriculture teachers at Coffee Middle, Coffee High, or George Washington Carver Freshman Campuses.

 

SOUTHEAST DISTRICT PROJECT ACHIEVEMENT

    

 

Junior/Senior District Project Achievement (DPA) for our Junior (7th & 8th grade) and Senior (9th-12th grade) 4-H members was held on Monday, May 31, and Tuesday, June 1. We had a great group of 4-H’ers to compete in the contest. The competition included 4-H members from throughout the 39 counties in southeast Georgia.

    

 

Twenty-five students completed portfolios this year, out of which twenty-one competed in the project competition. The portfolio accounted for 40-50% of their total DPA score. They also had to present a 10-12 minute presentation on their project which accounted for the balance of their score.

    

Junior 4-H members, their projects, and placings were: Kayden Davis, Better Breakfast; May Belle Davis, Dog Care & Training; Jake Grantham, Swine, 1st place; Brianna Moreno, Performing Arts-Dance, 2nd place; and Florence Shealy, History, 2nd place.

     

 

Senior 4-H members, their projects, and placings were: Ashton Ates, Food for Fitness, 1st place; Sophie Bird, Performing Arts – Dance, 2nd place; Jeremiah Brantley, Performing Arts-Drama, 1st place; Nathan Cooper, Dairy Foods; Amelia Crockett, Public Speaking; Kilee Davis, Dairy Foods; Terryanna Harris, Photography and Videography; Hayden McDonald, Sports; Muskan Minhas, Health, 1st place; Glenn O’Steen, Engineering & Mechanics, 1st place; Alexandra Rivero, Performing Arts – Drama, 2nd place; Ishika Sadarangani, Food for Health and Sport, 1st place; Austin Strickland, Performing Arts – Other Instrumental, 1st place; Justin Strickland, Computer Information Technology, 3rd place; Janilla Warren, Food Fare; and Sariah Wells, Performing Arts – Dance.

     

 

Congratulations to Ashton Ates, Jeremiah Brantley, Muskan Minhas, Glenn O’Steen, Ishika Sadarangani, and Austin Strickland who are advancing to State 4-H Congress in July. They all won first place in their projects. We want to congratulate all of our participants for doing a great job at DPA.
