Irene “Shirley” Simmons, age 89, of Broxton, Georgia passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021 in Broxton, Georgia. Mrs. Simmons was born on September 22, 1931 in Coffee County, Georgia the daughter of the late Morgan Sidney & Addie Mae Todd Moon.

 

Mrs. Simmons was a homemaker and a member of Reedy Branch Baptist Church, Broxton, Georgia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Simmons, son, Osborn “Skeet’ Newell, 3 brothers and, 2 sisters.

 

Survivors include 2 daughters, Margie Anderson (Donald) of Douglas, GA and, Linda O’Neal (Dennis) of Broxton, GA; 3 sons, Troy Morris of Broxton, GA, Joey Morris of Franklin, GA and, Bruce Newell of Broxton, GA; 2 brothers, Don Moon (Nadine) of Brooklet, GA and, Dale Moon (Amie) of West Green, Ga; 3 sisters, Kay Grantham (Johnny), Judy M. Epps and, Pauline Spann; 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and, 9 great great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

 

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 18, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Reedy Branch Baptist Church.

 

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at Reedy Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Den Weniger officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bruce Cato, Ronald Taylor, Andrew Harper, Alan Stone, Zeke Keanum and Layne White.

 

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
