Carolyn Merritt Rollins, age 74, of Orlando, Florida, formerly of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 in Orlando, Florida. Mrs. Rollins was born on October 17, 1946 in Coffee County, Georgia the daughter of the late Lensey & Louise Batten Merritt.

 

Mrs. Rollins graduated as salutatorian from Broxton High School, graduate of University of Georgia, got her master’s degree from Valdosta State University and a doctorate degree from Nova Southeastern University. She was a retired teacher after 32 years working with the DeKalb County School System, Atkinson County School System, Glynn County School System and Coffee County School System. Mrs. Rollins also managed Discount Clothing, Douglas, GA and was a member of First Baptist Church, Douglas, GA.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Stanford Merritt, Rexford Merritt and John Lensey Merritt and 2 sisters, Julia Garrett and Myrtle Merritt.

 

Survivors include son, Christopher Scott Hall (Rose Marie) of Orlando, Florida; daughter, Lindsay Rollins Chambers (Justin) of Virginia Beach, VA.; sister, Marie Carver of Douglas, GA; brother, Ronald Merritt of Ambrose, GA; 4 grandchildren, Kaitlyn Hall, Jeremy Hall, Madison Chambers and, Clayton Chambers; several nieces and nephews.

 

The family will receive friends Friday, August 6, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Sims Funeral Home, Douglas, GA.

 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Sims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Edsel Young officiating. Interment will follow at Bethany Holiness Baptist Church Cemetery, Ambrose, GA. Pallbearers will be Trevor Merritt, Don Merritt, Darrell Merritt, Tony Merritt, Chris Merritt, Autrey Merritt, Steven Merritt.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to; Coffee County High School-CTAE 159 Trojan Way, Douglas, GA 31533

 

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Attendees are asked to comply with the current guidelines and restrictions concerning containment of the Coronavirus, including social distancing.
