Merrell Clayson Jewell, age 78, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Pruitt Health & Rehab., Ocilla, Georgia. Mr. Jewell was born May 25, 1943 in Coffee County, Georgia the son of the late Isom Jewell and Oneda Phillips Jewell.

 

Mr. Jewell was a farmer and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Douglas, Georgia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandchild, John Jewell, brother, Harvey Jewell and 2 sisters, Bernice Crosby and Barbara Jean Knight.

 

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Myrna Jewell of Douglas, GA; 2 sons, Isom Craig Jewell of Douglas, GA, Merrill Travis Jewell of Douglas, GA; step-son, Rodney Neal Peterson (Pamela) of Douglas, GA; 11 grandchildren, Clayson Jewell, Dean Jewell, Braxton Jewell, Kayli Jewell, Deign Jewell, Anslee Jewell, Asher Jewell, M J Swann, Savannah Torres, Kirk Peterson and Kollin Peterson; 13 great grandchildren; 2 brothers and 4 sisters; several nieces, nephews cousins and other relatives.

 

The family will receive friends Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Sims Funeral Home.

 

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 27, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Michael Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Little Utah Cemetery, Axson, GA.

 

Attendees are asked to comply with the current guidelines and restrictions concerning containment of the coronavirus, including masks and social distancing.

 

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
