Mr. James Elwood Merson, Jr., age 80 of Douglas, GA, passed away Friday morning, January 27, 2023 at his residence following a short illness. Mr. Merson was born May 31, 1942 to the late James Elwood Merson, Sr. and the late Dorothy May Mosebach Merson. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law: Sharon Johnson and her husband Frank and a grandson: Cameron Spivey. 

 

 

Mr. Merson, a native of Baltimore, MD, had lived in Florida for a number of years. He had been employed in Orange County, FL as a heavy equipment operator. Mr. Merson was of the Catholic faith. 

 

 

Survivors include: 

 

 

4 Children: Scotty Merson of Avon Park, FL 

Tammy Merson of Douglas, GA 

Kimberly Moore and husband Brent of Nashville, GA 

Shane Merson and wife Tammy of Douglas, GA 

 

 

3 Siblings: Janice Helton and husband Joe of Oak Grove, KY 

Ricky Merson of Douglas, GA 

Tommy Merson and wife Julie of Orlando, FL 

 

 

7 Grandchildren: Adrienne Barlow of Jacksonville, FL 

Ryan Smith of Douglas, GA 

Justin Smith of West Green, GA 

Skylar Merson of Douglas, GA 

Dillion Vickers of Pearson, GA 

Natasha Carter of Douglas, GA 

Andrew Spivey of West Green, GA 

 

 

7 Great Grandchildren 

 

 

Several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Many Friends 

 

 

A memorial service will be held for Mr. Merson on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home with Father Paul O’Connell officiating. 

 

 

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
