A meeting two police offcers had with two individuals hanging out at the Circle K on Baker Highway at 12:25 a.m. on May 18 sent one of them to jail.

A Douglas Police Department incident report states that an officer saw the two men, identified as Derek Porter, 26, and Shawn Taylor, 22, sitting on the east side of the Circle K. The officer pulled up and asked if he could speak with them. They both agreed. The officer allowed Porter to conduct a search; the officer found a digital scale and an unused capped syringe.

Another officer arrived and searched Taylor. He didn’t find anything but noticed a bag on the ground near where Taylor had been. Both Taylor and Porter said the bag wasn’t theirs. The officer looked in the bag and saw a substance he thought was methamphetamine. Taylor and Porter said the bag was there when they got to the store. Taylor then told the officers that he found the bag behind the store and carried it to where he was sitting.

The report states that at that point Taylor was arrested. Taylor didn’t have any contraband on his person. However, Taylor was charged with possession of methamphetamine and transported to the Coffee County Jail. Taylor is still in jail.
