On November 16, 2024, deputies from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary in progress call on Highway 158 West. When they arrived, the found Darren Armstrong, 29, inside the home hiding, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.

The report states that when officers arrived, the complainant stated that she had seen an individual, later identified as Armstrong, enter the home through a window. Deputies entered the house and announced their presence. As they searched the house, they found Armstrong hiding inside one of the rooms. A bag and a set of keys were on a bed near Armstrong. The report says that he denied that the bag or keys were his. However, one of the deputies had responded to a call involving Armstrong a few days before and he said he recognized the bag from that call. The keys were later found to belong to a pickup that was in the home’s driveway. Armstrong had allegedly taken the keys from the unlocked truck.

In the report, Armstrong stated that least three different people had given him permission to be inside the home. Officers spoke with all three and none had given him permission to be there, the report says.

Armstrong was arrested and charged with burglary in the 1st degree and transported to the Coffee County Jail.
