Comprehensive plans are essential for shaping cities’ futures. The Joint Comprehensive Plan for Coffee County, which includes the cities of Ambrose, Broxton, Douglas, and Nicholls, serves as a guiding framework. It aims to guide Douglas and the cities in Coffee County toward becoming sustainable, resilient, and vibrant communities with long-range goals and a clear vision that fosters community growth.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan for Coffee County and the cities of Ambrose, Broxton, Douglas, and Nicholls is a document required by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, which mandates that it be revised every five years. This plan outlines the goals and objectives of the City of Douglas and addresses various topics, including transportation, population, housing, land use, economic development, natural resources, historic resources, and community facilities. The City of Douglas Mayor and City Commission approved a resolution to adopt the plan on September 25, 2023. The next update will be in 2028.

To view the entire plan and learn more about the future plans for Douglas, stop by the Community Development Department’s Planner office at City Hall (302 S. Madison Avenue) or visit https://www.cityofdouglasga.gov/234/Planning-and-Zoning-Division.
